	Saturday, September 10, 2005 Sounds Like I Was Right About FEMA I commented the other day that what FEMA did really well was write checks; today comes the confirmation: The Federal Emergency Management Agency has paid out $669 million nationwide to families affected by Hurricane Katrina, officials announced Saturday. Nationwide, FEMA has registered 573,262 families, agency spokesman Ed Conley said. In the Houston area, 36,823 families have registered and $49.3 million has been paid.
